Traditional narratives have either omitted or minimized the historical contributions of Black people. Typically, the focal point of the story is oppression and subjugation; during this workshop, we strike an authentic balance by also exploring Black people's multifaceted history in a way that centers agency, brilliance, and joy. Educators will walk away with the capacity to teach African-American history in a way that inspires and fosters pride. We will also provide practical strategies for infusing this content across various subject areas.

Teach literacy through rap, Heal from suppressed genius, and Build academic achievement.
This workshop will help participants develop an understanding of utilizing Hip Hop as a strategy to engage students and foster academic achievement. Participants will be given demonstrations on how to use rap lyrics as text. The overarching objective of this workshop is to promote the implementation of culturally sustaining pedagogy and curriculum that is affirming for students.

Too often, students experience hearing pejorative language and microaggressions within their learning environments. These damaging acts can sometimes come from their peers and adults. We provide practical strategies and systems to lessen or eliminate these occurrences during this workshop. This will help elevate your culture and climate by centering diversity and inclusion.
